So, what would be the first thing you do when you get a divorce? Deny, deny, deny… tried that. Blamed him, yep did that. Blamed myself… oh I went down that road too. During my healing journey I wanted to find a better way to get through all of the emotions and challenges tied to untying the knot so to speak. More than anything I did not want to stay stuck. So, what did I do? I joined the local gym.
What influenced my decision to seek out and join a gym instead of an all-girls vacation or clubbing to receive compliments and free shots from random men? Well, I will admit to watching Khloe Kardashian’s had a show on E! called Revenge Body and thinking at the time, “why waste your time or energy doing something for someone that you are trying to move on from and live without”? I was curious to identify the purpose or goal for achieving the “Revenge Body”…like are we doing this to get back at the ex or to get back with the ex? Either way I was motivated to find new inspiration and challenge myself to take action in a healthy way to better myself for myself.
I decided to sign up for a local gym on July 4th, 2020, and I drove down to the 10gym, I was all excited and wouldn’t you know it was actually a NATIONAL holiday, and the dang gym was closed. I didn’t let that deter my motivation and instead of staying stuck I went back on Monday, became a member of the gym. It was great. I felt good about taking that first step even though I had a Brooke Burke workout app on my phone, I was ready for a workout change. I do want to advocate that if you are pressed for time and want a quick workout that still burns, Brooke Burke is your gal.
I discovered that in order for me to maintain a healthy work out routine I feel my best when I am able to constantly change up my workouts. I did utilize Brooke Burke’s app for a solid year before I needed a change, and decided to get a 10gym membership.
Now if you have gone to a few different gyms over the years then you might know how it is when you first sign up because it is a change and change is not comfy it takes effort to prove to yourself that there was a reason why you wanted to go in the first place. That was me and when I showed up, unfortunately, I went in with blinders in a way and only utilized either the treadmill or the elliptical. Yeah, you might also know from experience those exercise machines get boring REAL quick. I had been curious about personal trainers and I knew that the gym offered services from personal training company called Lighthouse Fitness Management. Now I decided I wanted an expert to guide me and provide new exercises while also verifying that I was exercising correctly, so I signed up and was assigned with my personal trainer, Taylor Howe.
I worked with Taylor for a little over a year and it was an interesting and valuable experience. I learned a lot about myself including what I am capable of achieving by just trying new things. Working with Taylor, he introduced me to lifting heavy weights. Now for a girl my size, it was really intimidating. Well, your girl did it. I was able to squat and lift with with heavy weights UNTIL I went to the chiropractor…. But that’s another blog story to come later.
I have included pictures of my results that I accomplished during my time working with my personal training Taylor. My goal was to lose like a pound or two, but my focus was to tone and gain muscle. When I signed up for this gym membership I was a year away from my 45th birthday and I set out to improve my health and body in all the ways I always wanted to by the time I turned 45.
