An interesting thing I discovered while working out is that I have flat feet and it can make some activities risky without applying proper form. What I mean specifically related to my feet is that I must remain aware to keep my ankles in place. I was told that our feet are just like the foundation of a house, if they are not steady, everything above will not be steady either. That blew my mind and made sooooo much sense. I had felt unsteadiness and even pain before after working out until I learned about the importance of foot stability with examples and guidance to correct.

Learning about flat feet captured my interest.. so, what did I do? I researched the heck out of it. I read articles and watched an informative video that explains that most of the time, people with flat feet, are even wearing improper shoe sizes. When this happens the feet start taking on the shape of the shoe. This actually happened to me, and my mind was officially blown.

So, I now with this newfound knowledge I understood that I had to make sure I had proper support for my ankles, feet, and toes. I also went shopping to invest in proper ankle and footwear.

The following products were purchased as either Walmart or Amazon:

  • Plantar Fascia Sleeves

  • Socks with Toe Separators

These products have helped so much I already feel the difference and improvement in my posture and workout performance.

Lastly, I learned how my flat feet have affected my knees and their position when I work out. Since my feet fall inward, my knees do to. This led to the pain I was experiencing. I love that one decision to get a gym membership has led to such positive gains both physically and mentally. In order to correct my posture, I now make sure my knees turn outward, allowing my hips to open. My trainer has recommended that I consult with a chiropractor because I found out that because I have trained and worked out with incorrect posture all these years, I have developed additional problems that continue up my back and to the neck. I kind of feel like I have now opened up Pandora's box regarding my body. But I am happy to have learned more about myself and to start correcting things to eliminate pain and support my health.

Below I have added videos that I thought were really helpful to better understand how flat feet can affect you and helpful recommendations to help:
