Have you ever watched TLCs Extreme Couponing? Or the recently released movie QueenPins? Which was based on a true story. It is an entire world of gathering as many coupons as possible and using them at the right time to get a real bargain. There are fully stocked rooms to show for this discipline in the show. The movie, these women had a whole racket going to where they made a LOT of money that caught the eyes of the feds. Now, I am not trying to go that route, I am a single parent who is trying to provide for three people. I am looking for deals, be it at a grocery store, entertainment and for sure, shoes and clothes. I decided I wanted to go into the New Year using these cash back apps. I have been hearing so much about them. I first decided to do some research online for the best ones, the easily accessible ones. For me, when I do research, I must read the reviews to get a better feel of what I want. Here is a breakdown of which apps ill be using for the year and for what:

  • GROUPON: Entertainment

  • GAS: I get my gas from OnCue, (I know, hello gas snob.lol) who does have a rewards card, which was not what I was looking for.

  • DOLLAR GENERAL: I get my households/kitchen/cleaning/beauty products (personal care)

  • IBOTTA: (Walmart, Target, Walgreens, Sprouts, Dollar tree, Crest, and others)

  • SWAGBUCKS

  • RECEIPT HOG

  • GOOGLE OPINION REWARDS

Most of these apps have it to where you can attach your account or scan a receipt. As a beginner, I chose to just scan the receipt. its fun going through to each app and store to see the deals, the discounts, and the notifications I get.

HOW IT WORKED FOR ME:

I wanted to give the apps a try for a few days before I blogged on it. I must say, I am hoping there is a learning curve. Lol. Here are the steps that I followed:

Step 1: I make a list of what I need at the store

Step 2: I go through the three main stores I frequent apps: Walmart, target, dollar general.

Step 3: organize the list in which store has what I need. Sometimes I visit just the two stores, or id visit all three.

Step 4: shop and save receipt

Step 5: scan receipt.

Here are the pros and cons I have found:

PROS:

  • The feeling of using the coupon

  • Seeing the savings

  • Getting creative to use the savings

CONS:

  • Are not the brands I use

  • Are not the foods I eat/particular shopper

To also help offset the cost, ill be signing up for a meal delivery service for 2xs/wk. (once during the week, the other on the weekend) and we go out for dinner 2xs/wk. Now, I am still researching which service to choose since I am gluten/dairy free, and my kids can eat whatever they want. That will be something I blog about next month.
